By the way...the silver GTI has wrong Front-details, chassis details..
The black one i know. Some years before i've got a offer from the old owner. But it was to expensive, wracked and lots of missing parts. I've some pictures of that car on my storage...i will have look....i remember that there was a other problem...i can't remember at this moment...

Whats the problem with a picture of your 176? Or do you want to re-built a 176? If yes...it is no problem for me...
To tell the dimensions isn't problem...i will take them and place here.

Yes, I know for the wrong details of the 77, but the cars must be restored !

For the 76, my purpose is to re-build a very first appearance JUNE 76 with all their details !
But mine is of OCTOBER 76 and ... I don't have the documents !
I'm on the point of to buy an other 76 with papers, but the contacts with the owner are very difficult and take a lot of time. I don't know the month of built of this one !
So ... it's why I wait to show pictures !

@ Olivier75, pour les poignées de portes "zamak", cela va de paire avec les gâche de verrouillage ancienne "petit modèle". Les dernières voitures sont de fin septembre 76 (cfr celle de Gael qui en a).

I will write it in english to allow all the participants to understand the information exchanged. I hope that all of you understand my english!

Yesterday Matthias asked me what was the demand about "zamak" and overall what was "ZAMAK".
Therefore I translate him your question about the use of door handle made out of die cast Zink alloy (Zink aluminium Magnesium Kupfer i.e. copper in german =ZAMAK) on the golf mk1.
He gave me his view on this.
It's right to write that the first die cast alloy handles for old door mechanism (the small one, handle level pushing to the back) have been assembled until end of September 76' BUT all golf mk1 from year model 77' also get some die cast alloy handles but for the new door mecanism (the big one, handle level pushing toward the bottom).

So, this model is for GTI 176?

You are right. I've bought twice times some parts from this seller. First time it was bad...second time it was perfect!
These parts only needs fresh black color...they have standard safety color...beware rust
If you buy 2 pieces you can modify easy one piece for the passenger side...

Other way is to take some used bad crome parts and paint it black....could be cheaper

The old valve cover from 176 has little openings near to the cylinder-head. In this openings you can see the packing!
In 177 the openings are closed!

Can you please place in the picture from the scirocco-engine you've sent to me? There you can see the openings...

I won't add Scirocco pictures here as it's a golf association!

But as already exchanged on the picture taken in Juni 76 for Automotorsport July 76 edition, we can see the "176" engine with all the specificities including the valve cover than.
Same for the picture here (august 76 models???) On the "rallye Racing" from October 76, showing a camparison between Oettinger 1600 and Golf gti, we can observe that the Golf gti shown is also a true "176" car.

But as already stated with Andy before, on these PRESS (VORSTELLUNG Nummernschild) Cars, I still don't know why Wolfsburg Marketing dep. changed the ventilation panel for the newest 177 version.. maybe to show the people an improvement.

Finaly having observed 76' golf GTI (176 as much possible.. almost none remaining) and the "US" sister Rabbit with EE and EF from 76 ; I'm almost certain that the short GTI production planed end of 1976 year model in Wolfsburg has been planed based on EE and EF cars body and electrical caracterstics (wires color codes are also different right?).
This could explain why the injections parts are so much different from the following 177 GTI models, why the hooks are under the bonnets, why a welded support for the "EE /EF" deppresion system is behind the diagnose box(under the bonnet over Left Macpherson) why some additional control connections are there (blue connection over the injection metering plate).
The EE and EF cars, available for US Canada and Japan (?) begining of February 1976 were fitted also with K-jetronic, exaust gas recycling , catalysator and other. This to satisfy the strong emission rate asked for somes states as California in 75'.

And also, the hooks under the bonnet disappeared in 78 GTI Models. That's exactly the moment when the US assembly plant Westmoreland has to start to produce their own Rabbit..

But I persist to say that the first GTI cars in Juni 76 didn't have the hooks under the bonnet !

And with the specific valve cover, there was also a specific gasket (the same was also on the swallowtail cars !)

Why do you don't think so? Please explain

The gasket was built from cork...+ 2 parts rubber if i remember right...
