Ok Bertrand, I didn't take care to this detail of the form of the inlet pipe !
Now, I agree with you that this picture is coming from a prototype car !
Thus, let us say that all the 176 had the hinges and hook !
For info, I own the original "Pressemappe" of the official presentation of the GOLF an SCIROCCO GTI.
These documents and pictures are dating of the 14th june 1976.
Here is a picture of the engine bay, but it is this of the Scirocco. The "Pressemappe" don't contain a picture of the Golf's engine.
We can see in fact the specific inlet manifold (with the flatt shape) of the first GTIs.

Vous avez remarqué, le protecteur plastique d'évacuation d'eau (et accessoirement où passe le tuyau d'eau de lave glace) est gris/blanc, et pas noir (en haut à gauche de la photo)
Ca va être chaud pour le retrouver celui-là !

Oui, s'il n'y en avait pas ... ce sera plus facile d'en faire une copie !
Par contre, il est également à remarquer que la gaine du câble d'ouverture du capot est blanche, alors que généralement elle est noire !

je ne savais pas que la section du manchon à évoluée également
vous envisagez de remettre en conformité vos golf avec l'origine à la sortie de l'usine

The water drain on passenger side is grey...like all 176 and 177 had. The drivers side is always black...
Water drain in the middle is more difficult i would say
There i think that the 176 had the small short version...do you agree?
The "line" to open the bonnet is white...in 176 and 177

Pour ma part, je l'ignorais. Je viens d'aller vérifier sur ma 76 et... effectivement il est de couleur beige, tandis que de l'autre côté il est noir !

On the picture of the book, we can see the small short version like on the last "swallowtails" (the firsts didn't have anyone !)
But since you (Bils and you) are saying that it was a prototype ... now I don't known any more if the earliest GTI's hadden or not this model !!!
On mine, I have the next rare plastic version 1976.
The version that we all known is appeared end 76 (I think november !

)
And the same version with the see-through window is appeared with the chassis B (08/81).
I'm also interested to known which model hadden the first GTIs !!!!

The first one : the "swallowtail" model and...... maybe the first GTI'S !!????
The "rare" specific model 1976 !
The third model ... from end 76 !
The latest model ... from 08/81 !
The four together !
If anyone knows which model is correct for the earliest model of the GTI ... don't keep the secret please !!!

Thanks for the pictures of the water drain...
I think the first one was built in 176GTI...all cars with this fresh air pipes had this one...
The second and the third type i've seen in 177 model. The second one was used in 177, which was built in 1976...
The third was used later in 1977 (model 177 and 178). But i don't know exactly, when the change was between second and third type...

By the way:
Does anybody has a list of 176 body-idendity-numbers combined with engine numbers?
At Golf 1-ig i've found a old topic about 176 where Mario has written that he has visited the ebay-seller of the 176 GTI which was sold to Belgium.
It was during this time the auction on ebay was online.
He has seen, that the GTI has the sign "*" before and behind the body-idendity-number. Often it was a sign for changing the body after a total damage...
Does anybody knows more about?

Just damage for the bonnet who isn't the correct model !!!
About the body-identity-numbers ... all the Golf untill 1979 have the VW initials before and after the chassis number.
As of the chassis A, these initials are replaced by two "stars" (one before and one after).
As of the chassis B, the chassis number stand on the "water bay" and there are also "stars" but another model (more little).
Only the importers may imprint a new chassis number after a big damage. It is thus possible that some old numbers (untill 79) habe been overstriked with the "stars" if the accident was after 08/79 !
