Hello all. Jon from Norway here. I bought my Oettinger in Marseille in July 2007. Adter enjoying it that summer I decided I wanted to restore it. It has been a long process and I'm still not done but slowly gettig there. Here you can see pictures from before I restoration and under restoration. I will try to update this post with my progress every once and a while... Enjoy :)

My two GTis... The grey is a 1984 VW Golf GTi 1800, all original and the white of course is the Oettinger...

Then I started the process of dismantling the Oettinger...

Out with the engine...

And off to the paintshop for some fresh paint...

Image

It's cold for a poor Oettinger in Norway... Even with new paint on... ;-)

Image

Engine parts have been glassblasted for a fresh look...

Image

And finally the transmission and engine is back where it belongs...

nice job, it's better for me to clean the aluminium parts of the engine as you've done instead of paint it, beautiful result

Well, it starts looking like an engine now... Installed the radiator and hoses... Didn't connect the fuel lines since I didn't remember which line was going where :-p

Also installed Tar-Ox brakediscs and pads with Goodrich braided hoses...

That's an outstanding "type 17"!
You've collected some great and hard to find NOS parts to perform an almost brand new 16s ! I've really enjoyed the picture after the spray stage.. that's a true "Alpinweiß"!
Just one detail that I can underline: why haven't you zinc coated the calipers like the other parts ?
