Exact ... début 78, les vis latérales de fixation sont encore absentes :up: :wink: , mais le tableau de bord est différent du 76, car le couvercle de la boîte à gants est présent.

My experience:
Dashboard GTI to 179 is always hard plastic.
The fastening 176-178 is always from below.
Until 179 ...

Yes it's hard to know, many years i've thought mirror and fuel cap are metal.
And now:
I've seen a unrestored 176 GTI in full original condition, really it's true! And there where no metal mirrors and fuel cap...only door-handle metal.

does anybody knows, that the first GTI had a different exhaust silencer?

The front exhaust silencer isn't available at VW or CP. Ebay Germany has one offer:

I know that problem with the bonnet...it is written in the forum ;)
But it's difficult to get a good used one. I have bought a uswd and it got new color...but it's to bad to built in.
So i've searched for a new one...and found it some weeks before. I will pick it up later...it's long distance ...
